Traditional Chinese Medicine and herbal medicine
I'm Ariel Kim, R.Ac, R.TCMP, PhD, a Registered Traditional Chinese Medicine Practitioner in Acton, Ontario. Chinese herbal medicine is a central part of my practice, used on its own or alongside acupuncture. Medicine runs in my family: my great-grandfather and grandfather practised Korean Oriental Medicine grounded in classical TCM, and I trained in the four-year TCM diploma program at the Toronto School of Traditional Chinese Medicine.
How an herbal consultation works
Every formula starts with a full TCM assessment: your health history, current symptoms, sleep, digestion, energy, and how your body has responded to things in the past. In Chinese medicine the same complaint can have different roots in different people, so two patients with the same symptom often leave with different formulas.
Formulas made for you
I work with ready-made patent formulas, granules and raw herbs, choosing the form that fits your pattern and your daily routine. Herbs let treatment continue day to day between visits. Please tell me about any medications or supplements you take so I can take them into account. The cost of herbs is billed separately from the consultation fee.
In the clinic or by phone and video
In the clinic: Initial Consultation & Treatment, 75 to 90 minutes, $140. Herbal medicine and acupuncture can be combined in the same visit.
Virtual Herbal Care, for herbal medicine without an in-person visit or between clinic appointments: Virtual Initial Consultation, 60 minutes, $140. Virtual Follow-Up, 45 minutes, $120. Herbal Formula Renewal, 15 minutes, $35.
Who it suits
People who want a whole-person approach to ongoing concerns such as digestion, sleep, stress, energy, menstrual and menopausal symptoms, and recovery between acupuncture treatments. The clinic is at 9015 Wellington Rd. 50, Acton, with free parking on site, an easy drive from Georgetown, Erin, Guelph, Milton and Brampton. Open Monday to Saturday, 10:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., by appointment. Detailed receipts are provided for extended health insurance.
